Tahoe Wilderness Medicine has partnered with the Wilderness Medical Society to offer continuing medical education (CME) credits for medical professionals. We also offer California continuing education credits for Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics.  Our courses offer Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine  (FAWM) core and elective credits. In addition to our oustanding CME courses we also offer Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS) and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) courses. 

Our courses combine outdoor recreation pursuits including: backcountry skiing, avalanche skills, climbing / mountaineering, rafting kayaking, etc. with pertinent wilderness medicine topics.

    Tahoe Wilderness Medicine is excited to offer a week of sport climbing in Spain in conjunction with our Summer Wilderness Medicine Curriculum November 4-11.   The retreat is based in the beautiful Montsec Mountains of Northwest Catalunya on the edge of the Pyrenees.  We will foster personal and professional development with daily sport climbing, daily breath work and yoga practice, as well as continuing education.

    Want to take your cross-country mountain biking to the next level? Want to learn the fundamentals of pumping, jumping, turning, and dropping, all with certified coaches? Want to earn CME at the same time? Join us at Truckee's incredible and newly expanded bike park for 8 hours of CME and two half-days of bike skills, dirt jumping, or both. Riders of all levels will build skills, boost confidence, and advance their riding with safe, inclusive, and encouraging coaching from our friends at the Truckee Bike Park and the Next Level Bike Skills Program.

  • This course is set in the rugged Chugach Mountains surrounding Valdez and Prince William Sound among the greatest concentration of separate glaciers in Alaska.  Join us and learn how to manage medical emergencies in remote, mountainous and glaciated terrain.

    Join Sierra Rescue/Rescue 3 West and Tahoe Wilderness Medicine, LLC (TWM) for a combined swift water rescue and wilderness medicine course on the South Fork American River.  This Saturday - Sunday course includes Rescue 3 International's swift water rescue certification for rafters, kayakers, canoeists, and other recreational river users.  

  • Mountain peaks with incredible vistas of the Arctic Ocean and Norway fjords are just the beginning of what you’ll find in the Lofoten Islands.  March is powder season in Lofoten so be ready to explore couloirs and peaks and the thrill of awesome descents!  Enjoy 6 days of guided backcountry skiing with certified mountain guides. Tahoe Wilderness Medicine, LLC has partnered with Northern Alpine Guides and Lofoten Ski Lodge to offer this weeklong Winter Wilderness Medicine course in the Lofoten Islands of Norway.

  • Tahoe Wilderness Medicine, LLC is partnering with the  Alpine Skills International to offer this Level 1 avalanche class combined with Winter Wilderness Medicine with 13 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.

    Students must be able to travel in avalanche terrain. This can be done using skis, splitboard or snowboard with snowshoes (see prerequisites below). Please familiarize yourself with the following resources as they will help prepare you for the topics discussed in the course. 

  • This course combines Alpine Skills International Introduction to Backcountry skiing course with a carefully crafted continuing medical education (CME) curriculum. The didactic and field sections of the CME course were designed to provide medical professional the knowledge and skills apply their medical expertise in the winter wilderness environment. The course focuses on core winter wilderness topics, common ski and snowboard injuries, avalanche rescue, and patient evacuation strategies.
